The Oregonian, on that Weds, May 3rd, listed 6 schools as attending the
tournament, but only showed the records of the first 4 teams in the next day's paper.
Forest Grove was wrongly listed as attending. Per Mike Carey, they did not have a team.
Tom Gamble, the current F.Grove aquatics director, confirms this as a F. Grove Swimmer.
It was directed by Garland Trzynka, the Portland State coach.

The 1990 State Program said the following info about this year:
"The following year" (Spring 1972) "four teams from the Portland area organized
and played a more developed spring High School schedule and again the Sunset
squad continued its winning way, defeating Centennial High School in the finals."
Who was the 4 team? Was it Wilson? Did they count Beaverton who played with Sunset?

Steve Roth, who played on these first 3 Sandy teams quotes from a Sandy Post article
dated April 27, 1972: "Water Polo team formed in Sandy" with game results against
Centennial and Forest Grove; plus, Portland State and Lewis & Clark College.
Steve also found an article about their 1st game, against the "Oregon Water Polo
Club (Sunset/Beaverton) ... ranked second in the Nation for women."
Sandy lost 16-8. Steve said they played mostly girls against them.

Jim Anstine, the first Sandy coach, said his teams first experience was at the
Sam Barlow HS pool. They went there for a clinic and games. First, they watched
Centennial play, then Garland ran a clinic followed by them playing some games.
Jim said they had one player from Washington HS playing for their Sandy HS team.
Jim said the teams allowed others to play, if they were interested.

Sandy Post archives "cannot" be found at the Sandy library. They are at
the Sandy Post office in Sandy. Call Thursday or Friday.

Fri, May 5th: Cottage Grove defeated Willamette 9-1 to finish 3-0 in Lane County.
Cottage Grove also fielded 11 & under and 12 & older teams per newspaper.
